FOCUS Initiatives LTD
FOCUS Initiatives LTD is an abolitionist effort to develop a re-entry or post-release program for people returning to Marion County/Indianapolis from prison, that takes into account the underlying or “root” causes of mass incarceration. We understand that people are incarcerated not for what they do, but for who they are. Political, economic, and social forces all contribute to determining how people are treated by the criminal legal system. FOCUS stands for Forever on Course United in Solidarity, and in that spirit, we hope to go beyond helping individuals, to changing the conditions that have produced mass incarceration.
Shaka Shakur Freedom Campaign
A significant New Afrikan Political Prisoner, revolutionary organizer, leader of people’s struggles, revolutionary theorist, and movement builder, Shaka Shakur is a longtime fighter for the liberation of the Republic of New Afrika and all oppressed peoples. Shaka has been held captive by the state of Indiana since 2002, when they imprisoned him on trumped-up charges for which Shaka has already served his initial sentence. The real reason he remains a political prisoner is because of his central role as an organizer within, across, and beyond prison bars. Visit ShakaShakur.org, a website maintained by the Liberation Center, for the latest updates about Free Shaha Shakur and for an expanding database of Shaka’s past and contemporary works.
The Indianapolis Liberation Center, of which IDOC Watch is a member-organization, is a physical and virtual community hub dedicated to advancing the causes of all marginalized, oppressed, exploited, and dispossessed people in Indianapolis and beyond by uniting and working to overcome the divisions imposed on us by the oppressing classes.
By engaging in regular and various kinds of educational, cultural, social, political, and other work, our mission is to foster a sense of collectivity and revive our community’s long-standing belief in the possibility and necessity of creating a different and better world. Each of the cultural, political, educational events, campaigns, meetings, workshops, and struggles we’ve led and hosted facilitates collaboration between community members, organizers, and those who want to learn how to become organizers. The Center is maintained solely by the work of volunteers and the donations of people from our community, our member organizations, and affiliated groups. While posing significant obstacles, it is the only way to ensure our complete political independence.
