Urgent Action! Shaka Shakur Subjected to Severe Medical Neglect (Update)

A week after our last action, when the Interstate Transfer Compact Coordinators in Indiana and Virginia guaranteed multiple people who called in on Shaka’s behalf that the medical neglect we were calling and emailing to address was going to be handled, still nothing has been done to ameliorate the acute pain he is experiencing as result of VADOC’s failure to treat his degenerative disc disease!

Here is Shaka’s description of the situation:

“The nurse practitioner ordered an increase in my dosage of medication over a week ago.. I should be receiving 2000 but it’s still only at 1000 (500 twice a day). I was also supposed to see a neurologist two years ago as confirmed by Kyle Rosch, the Interstate Compact Coordinator from Virginia and Joel Gruber, the Interstate Compact Coordinator from Indiana, but confirmation for an appointment has been pushed back continuously since my transfer [from Indiana to Virginia].

Each new facility I have been transferred to was supposed to receive my medical file, but Sussex [the first facility I was transferred to in VA] never got my complete file from IN. At this point I haven’t received a surgical pillow or double mattress, both of which are necessary to manage the pain of my condition, and both of which I’m entitled to based on my medical history.

Now my condition is becoming increasingly worse not only because of my medical condition but because the cold aggravates my pain and I am being held in a refrigerated cell.”

1) That Shaka Shakur #1996207 be provided a cervical pillow and egg crate type OE double mattress to mitigate the pain and progression of his degenerative disc disease

2) That Shaka Shakur’s entire medical history file be provided to the medical staff at Buckingham Correctional Facility.

3) That Shakur’s pain medication dosage be increased
