NO CAMERAS

September 19, 2021 AT 2 PM EDT

We have seen how powerful videos documenting racist police brutality have brought people to action. From the LAPD's beating of Rodney King in the 90s, to the murders of Tamir Rice, Walter Scott, and George Floyd in the last decade, images and videos have made a powerful impact on the public's awareness of institutional brutality.

Unfortunately, prisoners don't have access to cameras to document the abuses they face on a daily basis. Of course there are cameras in prisons, but they are kept under tight control by guards and administrators, keeping the public ignorant of their crimes.

The No Cameras series seeks to allow our incarcerated men and women to shine a light on the stories that are kept from the public. We seek to inform the people about both the Prison Industrial Complex and the resistance of countless men and women against these conditions. Join the discussion, join the fight!

Join us for the second installment of our No Cameras series, exposing the abuses of Indiana's prison system and the lives and activism of those affected.

Chris Trotter, #862556, aka Naeem, is a revolutionary political prisoner who has been incarcerated in Indiana for the last 39 years, including 20 years in solitary confinement - 23 hours a day in a windowless cell.

Chris was originally sentenced to 4 years for petty theft. On February 1, 1985 at the Indiana State Reformatory (now Pendleton Correctional Facility), Chris and his fellow prisoners defended the life of a jailhouse lawyer who was nearly beaten to death by guards that were part of a secret white supremacist organization called "The Sons of Light". This sparked an uprising, what the monopoly media called a "riot". Chris was sentenced to an additional 142 years for his alleged role in the uprising, something he has called "a legal lynching".

Chris has been an active reader, writer, and mentor to others while imprisoned, always working to improve himself and those around him. As he says, "Do the time, don't let the time do you... Don't ever surrender your mental liberty and self-respect, and be strong but human."

He attended a clemency hearing on May 11, 2021 and is still waiting for a response. He is asking all freedom-loving people to write Governor Holcomb and the Indiana Parole Board to advocate for his release.

You can write to Chris on GTL (web.connectnetwork.com) or by main at the following address:

This is one piece of a broader campaign for mass release, "Freedom Now!", which you can learn more about here:

In addition to seeking clemency for our incarcerated comrades (Leon Benson, Chris Trotter, Aaron Isby and others), we will continue to push on common-sense grounds for release for other wrongfully incarcerated people. These projects, if successful, would give us the people-power to really combat the Department of Corrections in Indiana. It's only with the leadership and knowledge of the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated that we can win and build a better world, a world in which the draconian US prison system is a distant memory. Dare to Struggle! Dare to Win!
